SERVICES PROVIDED:

  • Structural Concrete Investigation
  • In Situ and Laboratory Testing
  • Factual Reporting

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The aim of the site investigation was to establish the structural arrangement and condition of the existing concrete first floor slab to enable the client to appraise its suitability to carry a modified regime of loading, advice on the possibility of extending the structure’s life span and relevant means of achieving this.

OUR ROLE

ACS’s role was to carry out concrete investigations to determine the thickness, structural form/arrangement, and condition of the existing concrete 1st floor & rebar of the Pavilion.

ACS carried out on site testing, intrusive investigation and laboratory testing which included:

  • Cover meter survey & reinforcement scanning using Hilti Ferroscanner with limited intrusive investigations.
  • Depth of carbonation testing.
  • Concrete dust sampling for chloride content profiles.
  • Half-cell potential testing.
  • Core samples for determination of compressive strength.
  • Rebound hammer testing.

CHALLENGES

The waterproof membrane on the top surface of the slab required removing prior to testing and reinstating upon completion.

On site examination of ferroscan results indicated that the first-floor slab comprised of steel filler joists an approximately 600mm spacings. This was confirmed by local breakouts to expose and measure the filler joists. All joist directions were then established using the ferroscanner.

CONCRETE INVESTIGATION SERVICES

Concrete testing was the first service to be offered by ACS Testing back in 1987. Since then, we have increased our scope to cover a wide range of UKAS accredited testing on fresh and hardened concrete, both on site and in our laboratories. Our tests are conducted to British or European standards.

ACS offer the most requested tests for physical and mechanical properties as well as bespoke testing as per our client’s requirements. Our experienced team would be happy to discuss any concrete testing projects you may need assistance with.

Find out more about our concrete testing services. We offer a range of concrete investigations and tests including:

  • Determination of Slump
  • Compressive Strength of Concrete Cubes
  • Flexural Strength
  • Density
  • Chloride Content and many more.
